H is for Hashtags

Welcome to the Letter H in my 26 marketing tips for you to grow your floral business in a sustainable way.

Today is H for Hashtags.

A big topic for not many characters and one that I’m definitely not going to do justice on. I’ll give you a few tips which I believe are true and point you in the direction of people more knowledge than me.

Tip 1: Conspiracy theories or statements of fact on Instagram are a dime a dozen – everyone has an opinion and most likely everyone is wrong (even me). Take all advice with a grain of salt and do what works for you and your business.

Tip 2: Look for niche hashtags to use. By niche I mean hashtags which haven’t been used a lot. Advice at the moment is to use hashtags under 1M. The smaller and more niche the hashtag the longer you will stay up the top of the recent grid.

Think about your ideal client. What hashtags would they actually use to search for your business? #weddingflorist or #weddingfloristmelbourne

Tip 3: Quality over quantity. You can use up to 30 per post… but should you use 30. Me and Orla recommends 10 at this point (listen to podcast recommendation).

Tip 4: Hashtags in the caption or in the comments doesn’t matter. It will work either way. You can go back and retag your images in a caption BUT you won’t appear in the recent grid. You will drop in as per the date you actually posted.

Podcast recommendation: Episode 28 of Letters From A Hopeful Creative (Hashtags are discussed towards the end).

Tomorrow is I for Image names.
